Lessons learned from surgery that promote personal and professional satisfaction

Leadership, team building, and communication skills are universally necessary for personal and professional development; however these skills are often uncovered in formal training curricula. My passion is to connect with individuals and share my experiences gained via a career in surgery to enhance and improve their ability to build community and form high-functioning teams to achieve greater results than can be obtained by individual effort alone.

Attending these sessions puts me back in the role of the learner, and it’s a delight to fully embrace that role with each topic. As a faculty member fulfilling a variety of roles within the College of Medicine, the topics covered such as what makes for great teamwork, different leadership styles, how to have crucial conversations, and how to accept feedback are all immensely and immediately beneficial in my work. If you are looking for a high-impact, informative and enjoyable opportunity to advance professionally and personally, FUEL is it. The sessions are packed with useful information and delivered in a high-yield, easy to practice format. You have the opportunity to interact and learn from colleagues in different disciplines which is helpful from both an educational and networking connection. While some programs feel like more of an obligation or a box to check, this is not one. I have learned an incredible amount and truly believe my leadership skills have flourished from this course.
